Candle of the Month: Texas Cedar wood

Some fragrances are nature's own blend and are nearly impossible to duplicate. They are timeless and unaffected by trends and fashions. Cedar is such a fragrance. It always brings back pleasant memories and a comfortable feeling, like the smell of a cedar cabin, an heirloom cedar chest, or just the smell of the fresh mountain air in the Texas Hill Country.

The Texas Cedar wood is a small, alpine evergreen tree up to 23 feet high with stiff green needles and an irregular shaped trunk and branches, which tend to be crooked or twisted. The wood also tends to crack easily, so it is not used for timber. Cedar wood has been known through the ages as one of mother nature's insect repellents because of the aromatic cedar oil contained in it. Texas cattle fences are built with cedar posts which resist decay and pest infestation for 50 years or more.

The essential oil is steam distilled from the heartwood and wood shavings. It has a sweet, balsamic “pencil wood” scent. Ancient indian purification rituals used cedar for protection.

March 19-20th is Our First Scent-Sations Convention

The 1st Scent-Sations Convention will be held at the Genetti Best Western Hotel and Convention Center in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Festivities will start on Friday evening! On Saturday there will be all-day workshops followed by a Dinner, Awards Banquet, and then the Party will begin and go to Midnite!!!!

Make sure you book your convention before Feb. 29th to take advantage of the Early Bird Special Price! You'll find an application in your Candle of the Month package this month! A Convention Story

When I signed up in my 1st network marketing program,(1986) my sponsor tried to get me excited about the “business opportunity” but it always fell on deaf ears. In 1988, things had changed dramatically for me. I was undergoing intensive rehab from the effects of a car accident in which a drunk driver had broken almost every bone in my body. My goal was to get back full time to my job as a blue collar printer.

I had planned a trip to Arizona to stay with some good friends and I received a letter in my product order from a top distributor in that company saying that if you come to the convention “All your dreams will come true!”

Well, since I was going to be in Arizona and the convention was going to be in California I decided to spend an extra 3 days out west and attend that convention to see what all “the fuss was about!”

That convention literally changed the entire direction of my life. I was totally focused on becoming a full time network marketing professional.

In 1989, just 14 months after the convention I was living in Scottsdale, Arizona and I was earning a full time income because of that network marketing program. I have never looked back and my lifestyle has dramatically been made better because of it.

I often think what would have become of my life had I said to myself “Oh, I can't afford to attend the convention.” Within 4 years, the company that I worked for sold out to a large conglomerate and all the printers were fired.

While all my past “co-workers” were now scrambling for new jobs in the shrinking printing industry (most never got back the kind of union wages we were earning then) I was building a new life where I was working less hours for much more income all BECAUSE I MADE A DECISION TO GO TO THE COMPANY CONVENTION IN 1988.

So, if you are wondering whether the convention is important to attend, ask yourself what you really want to achieve with your Scent-Sations business. And if you truly believe that Scent-Sations is a business opportunity where you can achieve outstanding success, then you NEED to attend the convention on March 19-20th!

I am a Scent-Sations Distributor and would like to tell you a little bit about what is happening at my house.

I am a mother of 2 young children and I am married to a wonderful man who is in the Utah National Guard. He flies the apache helicopter and his unit was sent to Afghanistan in January for a one year tour.

Shortly after my husband deployed I received a phone call from a friend of mine whose husband has been in Iraq for a year telling me that she would be also leaving at the end of January 2004 for Kuwait and that she would be gone for one year.

She called to ask me if I could keep her 3 children until her husband gets back to the USA in April, 2004. As you can tell, I have my hands full with my two children and my friends three children all living under one roof! But it feels good to be able to serve my country, my family and friends while they are defending our freedom!

My constant advice to my down line is:-

•  Take candles with you wherever you go ( beauty salon, laundromat, car wash, doctor's office )
the "smell and sell" technique only works if you have something for people to smell

•  Hand out tri-folds and/or business cards
these are necessary business building tools

•  Talk to friend and family about the candles and the business opportunity
if this is good for you, it might be good for them too

•  Use the retail end of your business to build the recruiting end of your business
It's good to give someone a fish once in a while, but it's more rewarding to teach them how to fish

•  I look at it this way... if I can teach them how to do it, my work gets easier

I must add also that through all this, I've had the complete support of my wonderful husband and our 2 kids. That makes it so much more worthwhile to me!”

Distributor of the Month: Stephanie Sterling, CA

My background is in the hotel industry, where I spent 17 years selling convention and meeting space and planning special events. It was a career I "fell into" by default, when a catering manager at the hotel I worked at suddenly left in the middle of one of the busiest seasons of the year.

Within a few short months, I was living in the San Francisco Bay Area, then Seattle, Portland, Southern California and on it went. In early 1998 I was totally burnt out from the pace of 70 hour weeks, weekends and most holidays. I longed to be with my family and have a "normal" life.

That was when I began taking a look at home business opportunities and settled on a Network Marketing company that sold nutritional products. I stepped into my future and made a commitment to go to work and not look back.

I developed a passion for this industry and it's potential to empower people that had dreams and desire for something more than the ordinary. I began meeting exceptional people: leaders with integrity and vision.

A couple of years ago, I met one of those exceptional people on the Internet and we kept in touch. That person is Jackie Ulmer!

I love the fact that it's a simple product that people could get an "instant" result by smelling and burning the candles. No long instructions, complicated explanations, or degree in rocket science needed! It was truly a FUN business and very simple.
